   According to the definition of Wikipedia: “Industrial Engineering is a branch of engineering dealing with the optimization of complex processes or systems. It is concerned with the development, improvement, implementation and evaluation of integrated systems”.Industrial engineers of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, materials, analysis and synthesis, as well as the mathematical, physical and social sciences together with the principles and methods of engineering design to specify, predict, and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems or processes.Industrial Engineers want to use less money, resource, equipment to create the best profit by using softwares, tools, models, as well as linear program to achieve the final goal. 

   In a manufacturing process, companies want to increase the productivity as well as improve its quality. Industrial Engineers figure out the best way to optimize the work process. They work to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, energy, work cycle, inventory cost. This process may requires lots of knowledge from numerous subjects. IE’s needs to be qualified and knowledgable so that they can handle different kinds of problems. They make significant contributions to the workers by designing and offering a better and more effective workstations for their fellow workers. They can apply their skills in a variety of settings.  

   Industrial Engineers are able to taking on many kinds of jobs in many fields which include healthcare, logistic process, inventory control, quality control/assurance, human factor, workstation design, as well as any optimization process. Most of IE’s are interested and involve in operations research. It is about optimizing a process and try to find out the best way which cost least. For example, a company has to minimize the number of warehouses and figure out the best and economic pathways to destinations. With some useful simulation software, IE’s are able to forecast and redesign a queuing system so that customer don’t need to wait for a long time and speed up the process. The specialists may redesign a production facility to continuously improve the productivity and ensure the safety of workers.
